It is almost time to put the year 2023 in the rear-view mirror, which means it is also time to look back how the year went for companies. Flipkart has released FlipTrends 2023 — a look back at trends on Indians shopped during the year. “The FlipTrends Report offers insights into the evolving preferences and behaviour of Indian online shoppers, based on Flipkart’s understanding of over 500 million registered users, that have shaped the future of shopping in many ways,” said Flipkart in a press release.
According to Flipkart, shoppers spent an average of 7 hours on Flipkart this year. The popular e-commerce platform also witnessed over 41 million new customers up until November 2023.
These were the top cities on Flipkart’s list
As per the company, cities like Bangalore and New Delhi topped the list of metro city shoppers’ chart, Trivandrum, Patna, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, Ernakulam, Guwahati and Cuttack, Medinipur, and Bankura were some of the top tier-1, 2 and 3 cities that shopped the most on Flipkart.
When it comes to gadgets, it were the wireless headphones that topped the gadget list. Flipkart also witnessed almost 3.2 times growth in premium laptops and a 100% surge in tablet demand in 2023. A surprise category that got a major fillip was action cameras. Maybe it was down to content creators falling over each other to share on social media, action and adventure cameras emerged as the fastest growing segment under cameras, witnessing four times growth in 2023 as compared to 2022.
Indians also showed a fancy for gift cards. The third-party brand gift cards on Flipkart grew by 40% in 2023 as compared to 2022, especially for the gold and diamond jewellery and gaming categories. The Big Billion Day sales saw a 31% increase in Flipkart gift cards, as compared to the last year, said the company.
