Eagles roster move announced ahead of Seahawks game

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced one roster move ahead of their Week 15 road game against the Seattle Seahawks.

  • CB Mekhi Garner was temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

Note: Practice squad players can be temporarily promoted to the roster up to three times per season before they’re required to be exposed to waivers. This is the third and final elevation for Garner.

MEKHI GARNER

The Eagles previously elevated Garner in Week 6 and Week 7 to help out on special teams and provide emergency depth at safety.

This time around, Garner’s elevation was prompted by the need for ST contributions and extra cornerback depth. The Eagles ruled Darius Slay out in the aftermath of his knee surgery.

It’s a little interesting that the Eagles did not temporarily elevate practice squad member Brandon Smith. With Zach Cunningham out, the team only has three off-ball linebackers on the roster: Shaq Leonard (who only joined the team last week), Nicholas Morrow, and Ben VanSumeren. Calling up Smith would’ve given them a fourth.

Meanwhile, on the other side of things, the Seahawks temporarily elevated quarterback Sean Mannion and safety Ty Okada. Those moves seem to indicate Geno Smith will indeed be out. Jamal Adams, who was also ruled questionable, could be sidelined as well.
