Every single time Kate Middleton steps out for a public appearance, the Princess of Wales—and what she’s wearing!—is discussed around the globe. She is one of the most photographed women in the world, and the royal always dresses the part. This year, Middleton’s style choices were, as always, elegant and regal. The Princess of Wales stuck to her fashion signatures (including loads of great coats), but she also experimented, too. So, in honor of the end of the year, Vogue is looking back on 15 of Middleton’s best looks.
The Princess kicked off the year on a strong note at the 2023 BAFTAs in London: She emerged in February wearing an ethereal white, one-shouldered Alexander McQueen gown, complete with black opera gloves (a huge trend of the year). In the months that have followed, Middleton has only continued to strike polished fashion notes. At King Charles III’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey in May, Middleton emerged again wearing a white Alexander McQueen gown, but punctuated it with a formal blue and red robe, as well a special Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen leafed headpiece made of silver bullion, crystal and silver thread work. (The Princess does a tiara well.)
Following the coronation, Middleton developed a working wardrobe befitting a Queen-to-Be: slim pantsuits and matching stilettos. But that’s not to say she totally abandoned her beloved midi dresses. A standout look was the minty green Self-Portrait dress with a structured and belted top that she wore to Wimbledon (to match the tennis balls!). More recently, in November, Middleton wore one of her best cape coats yet—a red Catherine Walker cape coat complete with a bowed neckline and calf-length hemline. She even had a Jane Taylor brimmed hat and matching Gianvito Rossi stilettos to match. She’s the queen of monochromatic, after all.
