His flight touched down on February 6 (local UK time) and two black SUVs were photographed waiting at the Windsor Suite at Heathrow Airport waiting for the prince.
He was then transported to Clarence House, and seen heading into the building where he would have reunited with his sick father.
Later in the day Charles and his wife Queen Camilla were photographed leaving Clarence House and returning to Buckingham Palace.
Soon afterwards, a helicopter left the palace and headed to the family’s estate in Sandringham, 150km from London.
The royal standard was later raised at Sandringham to indicate the monarch was residing there.
It is understood that the Duke of Sussex learned of Charles’ diagnosis directly from his father.
“The duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis. He will be travelling to the UK to see His Majesty in the coming days,” the source close to Harry told The Press Association on Monday.
The prince’s wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and their children Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, have remained in the US.
Prince Harry’s prompt travel plans upon learning of the cancer diagnosis matched panicked concern previously exhibited during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s health scares years earlier.
An inside source told Us Weekly that at the time of his grandmother’s previous ill health, Harry felt powerless to provide comfort to the Queen, given the geographical distance between them.
“He felt helpless being 5000 miles away in Montecito (California) and has been checking-in non-stop with her,” they told the outlet at the time.
The family moved to Meghan’s home state in 2020 with the royal duo stepping back as working members of the royal family.
Harry last returned to the UK to see his father in May 2023 for the coronation.
Last month, King Charles was admitted to hospital for a three-night stay, where he had a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate.
The cancer is not understood to be prostate cancer, according to a royal source and an official statement from Buckingham Palace, which called the grim discovery “a separate issue of concern”.
Buckingham Palace said the prostate procedure allowed for a “swift intervention” of the detected cancer.
The official statement described the King as “wholly positive” about his upcoming schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
