Sydney family provides update after woman brutally attacked by dog

The family of a woman who was brutally attacked by a dog in Sydney’s southwest have revealed she has spent the past week recovering in intensive care.

Lynda Watson, 51, was mauled by a French mastiff at a Condell Park home last Tuesday.

Bystanders attempted to help, but when unsuccessful, police were forced to use a taser on the dog.

Watson was treated at the scene for dog bites to her chest, arms and legs.

She suffered significant blood loss and was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

7NEWS understands Watson does not live at the property, but was there to clean the home.

A week on, Watson’s niece told 7NEWS.com.au her aunty is “extremely traumatised” from the attack.

“All I know is she is having surgery to repair the blood flow to her arm and leg,” she said.

“It will be a slow recovery, she is lucky to still be alive.”

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds to help support Watson’s medical costs.

“In the wake of this traumatic incident, Lynda faces not only physical pain but also the daunting prospect of many months, if not years, of healing ahead,” Watson’s friend Peta Banks said.

“As she focuses on her recovery, we want to alleviate the burden of financial worries that inevitably accompany such a challenging journey.”

Canterbury Bankstown Council confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au the dog was willingly surrendered to Council by the owners to prevent further harm.

“After assessing the dog, it is clear it could not be rehabilitated and has since been euthanised,” the council said.

7NEWS.com.au has reached out to Peta Banks for further comment.
