A Huge Week for Fujifilm, Sigma, Sony and More! | The PetaPixel Podcast

Last week was a big one for some of the biggest names in the camera industry including Fujifilm, Sigma, and Panasonic. Tons of announcements hit thanks to the CP+ camera exhibition in Japan that we needed a whole episode to talk about them all!

Thank you to OM SYSTEM for sponsoring the PetaPixel Podcast! OM SYSTEM unveiled its latest flagship camera, the OM-1 Mark II, on January 30, building upon the legacy of the original OM-1. With double the buffer size and impressive high-speed sequential shooting capabilities–up to 50fps with continuous autofocus — the new camera offers enhanced autofocus performance, accuracy, and reliability.

Anticipated to begin shipping any day now, insider information from OM SYSTEM revealed that they’ve extended their pre-order promotion, originally expected to conclude on February 26th, now extended until the end of March. Pre-order your OM-1 Mark II body or kit by March 31st and enjoy an additional complementary BLX-1 battery. Bundle your purchase with select lenses to save up to $300. CP+ is typically a big stage at which Japan-based camera and lens manufacturers like to make a splash and 2024’s show was no exception. Sigma brought two new lenses to its lineup that live at opposite ends of the focal length spectrum, Sony announced a new compact fast zoom, OM System is bringing a firmware update to its OM-1, and Fujifilm announced the X100VI, the successor to the highly sought-after X100V that just couldn’t stick around on store shelves due to its massive popularity.

Those weren’t the only stories to come from the exhibition, as Sigma shared quite a lot of information with us about its strategy, including the future of the full-frame Foveon camera. Chris, Jordan, and Jaron break it all down in this week’s PetaPixel Podcast.

We use Riverside to record The PetaPixel Podcast in our online recording studio.

We hope you enjoy the podcast and we look forward to hearing what you think. If you like what you hear, please support us by subscribing, liking, commenting, and reviewing! Every week, the trio go over comments on YouTube and here on PetaPixel, but if you’d like to send a message for them to hear, you can do so through SpeakPipe.
