Katy Perry Rocks One of Fashion’s Most Death-Defying Heels

Last night, Katy Perry attended the Billboard Women in Music event in Inglewood, California—and naturally, the singer brought out a bold ensemble for the red carpet. Styled by Tatiana Waterford, the star opted for a red corseted top and laced-up skirt from British designer Ellie Misner. It was certainly a saucy look: The low-slung skirt even exposed a hint of a black thong. We love it! But even better was Perry’s choice of accessories for the night: She dared to wear one of fashion’s most infamously high shoes. Here’s a hint: Even a supermodel like Naomi Campbell took a tumble while first wearing them on the runway, back in 1993.

The death-defying heels in question? That would be the sky-high, moc-croc embossed pumps from Vivienne Westwood’s fall 1993 collection. Perry—who sourced the heels from Pechuga Vintage, a go-to destination for vintage luxury—proved she’s not scared of a little heel height (over 8 inches, to be exact.) The staggering platform and pitch is so torturous that even a seasoned stiletto wearer like Naomi Campbell couldn’t help but famously fall in a similar pair on the catwalk (see the iconic clip here—she played it off like a pro).

The shoes, then, are a real piece of fashion history. And Perry gets major props for dusting them off and giving them a go. Me, personally? I’d faceplate before even making it to the carpet.
