Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday the presence of US troops in Ukraine would be perceived as interventionist acts by Russia, according to the RIA state news agency.
During an extensive interview with RIA and Rossiya-1 state television, Putin remarked, “if US troops appear in Ukraine, Russia will treat them as interventionists.” Additionally, he addressed the potential for nuclear conflict, indicating that Russia might conduct nuclear tests if the United States does so.
Putin emphasized Russia’s readiness for a nuclear confrontation from a “military-technical” standpoint but noted that currently, “not everything is rushing to it.”
Recently, Putin had declared national unity and patriotism as the country’s most significant strength in the face of opposition from the collective West. These remarks were made during a meeting at the Kremlin with the victors of the ‘Leaders of Russia’ contest, an initiative aimed at cultivating a new cadre of leaders.
In response to a soldier from the Northern Military District, Putin highlighted, “Our most important weapon is the consolidation of Russian society and the attitude towards the Motherland as demonstrated by you and those with whom you serve.” He emphasized that this spirit of unity and dedication to the nation is Russia’s “most important, most powerful weapon.”
The president criticized those who believed that economic sanctions would weaken Russia, saying, “Those people who expected to suppress us with the help of economic sanctions, they did not take this into account; to understand this, you must be a citizen of the Russian Federation, to be part of our culture.”
The ‘Leaders of Russia’ competition, part of the ‘Russia – Land of Opportunities’ initiative, began in 2017. Its aim is to identify and nurture new generations of professionals in both the business and public sectors. The program has recently been extended to include the ‘Time of Heroes’ segment, dedicated to veterans of the conflict with Ukraine.
The ceremony for the fifth season of the contest saw 102 leaders from 31 Russian regions and international participants from Belgium and Serbia receiving accolades in Moscow.
