New Delhi: Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the squad after suffering an injury during a training session, the Football Association announced on Thursday.
Saka will miss England’s two remaining matches in the final four of the upcoming Euro 2024. The 25-man squad is set to face off against Brazil and Belgium in May.
“Bukayo Saka has left the England camp and returned to his club for continued rehabilitation,” the Football Association said in a statement. “The Arsenal forward reported to St George’s Park with an injury and has been unable to participate in training. No further replacements are planned as a 25-man England squad continue their preparation for the forthcoming Internationalals with Brazil and Belgium.”
Saka’s injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for England as they look to prepare for the Euro 2024.
Harry Kane, Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson trained indoors on Wednesday after suffering fitness issues, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier, Marc Guehi and Levi Colwill are also out of action.
West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is one of the front-runners to take up Saka’s place in the starting XI. Bowen has played in different positions for England in recent years and is versatile enough to play in a variety of roles.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon could also be in contention to play in the XI.
