Maruti Suzuki recalls over 16,000 units of Wagon R, Baleno: How to check if yours is included

Maruti Suzuki has announced a recall for over 16,000 units of its popular hatchback models, the Wagon R and Baleno. To be specific, 11,851 units of Baleno and 4,190 units of WagonR will be recalled. The reason for the recall is a potential issue with a component in the fuel pump motor. This defect, though rare, could lead to engine stalling or starting problems.

The recall affects Wagon R and Baleno units manufactured between July 30, 2019, and November 1, 2019. The manufacturer has assured owners that they will be proactively contacting them to schedule a free inspection and replacement of the faulty part.

How to check if your Wagon R or Baleno is included in the recall
Maruti Suzuki has not yet announced a specific method for informing owners other than direct contact. However, there is a way to check if your vehicle’s chassis number falls within the affected range.
The owners of Wagon R and Baleno models manufactured in the specific time period and enter your vehicle’s chassis number in the designated field on the service campaign webpage. The website will display a message indicating whether your car is part of the recall.
The Wagon R and Baleno are two of the top-selling passenger vehicles in India. In fact, in Feb 2024, MSIL sold 19,412 units of Wagon R, registering an impressive YoY growth of 15 percent as against the 16,889 units sold in the corresponding month last year. Similarly, 17,517 units of Baleno were sold, making it the third best-selling car in India in the month while WagonR comfortably topped the charts.
