Poppy, who was 20 months old when her battle ended, was diagnosed when she was only 11 weeks.
In a lengthy Instagram post, Saunders and Middleton have confirmed they are expecting a boy, having both struggled with IVF.
The couple announced in July 2023 that they had suffered a miscarriage.
“We have some exciting news! Poppy Grace is going to be a big sister! 🎉” they said on Tuesday.
“We’ve been battling with the right time to share this news, as we always want to be sensitive to those who have been going through their own challenges with cancer and fertility treatment.
“But this bump is getting too big to hide!”
Their son is due just before Saunders’ birthday on August 24.
Saunders continued writing of the challenging journey she and Middleton had gone through, both undergoing IVF while dealing with the grief of losing Poppy Grace.
“Tresne underwent six rounds of IVF treatment between this year and last, plus a platelet-rich plasma treatment directly into her ovaries and a brief trip to Mexico for a new fertility treatment just last month. Her egg collection journey continues,” she said.
Saunders referred to her miscarriage from last year, after she underwent her second round of IVF.
“Between us, we’ve managed to undergo nine general anaesthetics in the past six months,” she said.
“We both struggle with visiting the hospital due to the difficult memories of our 17 months living in hospital with Poppy Grace.
“This darling little boy is something very positive for us to look forward to.
“Thank you to the people who have continued to be in our corner, checking in regularly.”
