ABU DHABI: The Embassy of Japan in the UAE and the Japan Club of Zayed University in Abu Dhabi co-organized a ‘Japan Day’ event, which brought the richness of Japanese traditions, culture, language, and food to the university campus.
The event featured a Japanese tea demonstration by the Urasenke Tankokai Abu Dhabi Association, a lecture on Japanese sweets and a free tasting of ‘Daifuku’ (Japanese sweet rice cake with red beans) by Ocha Café Sakura, a Japanese traditional dance performance, mini-Japanese language lessons by the Japan International Cooperation Center, and a booth for scholarship opportunities offered by the INPEX Scholarship Foundation.
Ambassador of Japan in the UAE, ISOMATA Akio, and his wife attended the event and encouraged the members of the Japan Club.
“We are delighted to reflect on our recent Japanese Cultural Day event. It was an honor to have Isomata join us, and his presence added significant value to the occasion. The event showcased various aspects of Japanese culture, from traditional arts to modern trends, fostering cultural exchange and understanding among attendees,” a representative of the club shared.
A representative of the Embassy of Japan in the UAE told Arab News Japan that the embassy is excited to work with the university to showcase the Japanese culture to enthusiastic students.
“We have found many students enjoyed the event as many activities were done at hand. Students enjoyed the authentic Japanese traditional dance, Japanese sweets tasting, and demonstration of Way of Tea. They can immerse themselves in Japanese culture. We hope that we can organize the same event again next year,” she said.
