While popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanj is often in the limelight, not much is known about his personal life. In a recent interview, Diljit opened up about his difficult childhood and how it lead to a strained relationship with his parents.
Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia for a podcast, Diljit said, “I was 11-years-old when I left my home and started living with my mama ji (maternal uncle).I came to the city leaving my village behind. I shifted to Ludhiana. He said ‘Send him to the city with me’ and my parents said ‘Yes, take him.’ They did not even ask me.”
Diljit further said that over the years, the distance between him and his parents increased. Recalling his difficult childhood he said, “I used to stay alone in a small room. I used to just go to school and come back, there wasn’t any TV. I had a lot of time. Also, we didn’t have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money. So I started becoming distant from my family.”
However, Diljit said that he respects his parents as all they wished for him at that point was a good future. “I respect my mother a lot. My father is a very sweet person. He did not ask me anything. He did not even ask which school I studied. But my connection with them broke. Not just with them, with everyone,” he shared.
Diljit was born on January 6, 1984, in Dosanjh Kalan village in Punjab. He started singing at local events at a very young age, which soon made him famous among people. This was just the beginning of Diljit’s journey as he later made his singing and acting debut as well. In 2023, he gained international fame after performing at the popular Coachella music festival.
In other news, Diljit recently made headline when a picture of him with Nisha Bano, a Punjabi actor-singer, went viral on social media which lead people to speculate if they were married.
