Adhyayan had a tough journey but now will be seen in Heeramandi, that’s come as a surprise for many!
Please tell us more about his character…
Adhyayan plays a protagonist in the show.Interestingly there was a time when they needed to have someone who could play my younger version. Bhansali suggested Adhyayan play my younger version. So, he is playing two roles in the film.” I told Adhyayan, ‘Working with Bhansali is no less than winning an award so wear that as a medal with pride.’
But Shekar, were you concerned about Adhyayan and his career?
There is a ray of hope, Ups and downs, happiness and sadness are part of life. I am happy that he could hold his head high above the water through those dark times. He kept fighting and succeeded and Bhansali is the final verdict. If one of the biggest filmmakers casts you and is happy about it then there is no bigger medal.
Do you have regrets about not being able to work with Bhansali earlier in ‘Devdas’? You were to do Chunni Babu’s role…
I couldn’t do Chunni Babu’s role in Devdas because I used to be busy 30 days a month because of my shows. If you are working with Bhansali, then you have to dedicate 50-60 days to him. So, I didn’t want to do injustice to him so I didn’t do the role. I will always have that regret but God has given me something else to be happy about.
Tell us more about ‘Heeramandi’ and your role!
Heeramandi is a thriller. It is about the relationships between the Nawabs and courtesans and the conspiracies that used to happen. I am playing a Nawab opposite Manisha Koirala. Doing one ‘Utsav‘ or one Bhansali film is equivalent to doing 100 ordinary films!
