Ariarne Titmus suits up for Paris simulation as ‘gruelling’ Olympic preparations heat up

Ariarne Titmus’s preparation for the Paris 2024 have been given a shot in the arm after completing an Olympic simulation in training on Saturday.

Swim coach Dean Boxall’s squad, which includes Titmus, Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Brianna Throssell and Jack Cartwright, had a full dress rehearsal at their Queensland training base ahead of Australia’s Olympic trials next month.

The country’s best will all congregate at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre between June 10-15 to compete for spots on the Aussie team, of which Titmus is expected to be one of the headline names.

Boxall ran his St Peter’s Western athletes through their paces on Saturday ahead of the trials, and Titmus was keen to dial the simulation up as much as possible.

“Whipped out one of my Tokyo suits for what was a very special Saturday morning,” she said.

“An Olympic simulation to extract as much out of ourselves to perform with purpose, nerves and excitement at training. Thank you to St Peter’s Western and everyone who made it happen.

“My day to day at the moment is mentally and physically gruelling, but yesterday was a reminder of how blessed I am to live out my dreams.

“Training for an Olympic Games is tough and sometimes isolating, however, you need moments like yesterday to spark another pinch yourself moment.

“There is a very small window in life where you have the chance to perform on the world stage and throw every ounce of drive, hunger and determination into making your goals a reality. “Four weeks today until Olympic Trials. The fire is burning.”

Fans were given the chance to see the squad up close and personal as they ran through their final preparations ahead of the trials.

“This is a rare opportunity to come into the SPW aquatic centre — normally closed off to the public — and watch Dean and his squad lay down the final training block in their preparations for the 2024 Olympic trials,” the squad’s official Instagram account wrote ahead of Saturday’s event.

“Sitting close to the action, you will see all of SPW’s Olympic and World Champions together, suited up, and in full race simulation mode.

“You will feel the heat, hear the breathing, absorb the energy, and be part of the Olympic pool action as Dean creates the Paris atmosphere right here in Brisbane.

“You will be up close with them and witness these athletes in their home environment behind the curtain where the magic happens.”
