Starting XI:
Oblak
Conceded four times from 1.84 expected goals, as Oblak was powerless to prevent Osasuna’s clinical finishing amidst a host of defensive errors from his teammates. All four goals — two from young striker Raúl García, one from Aimar Oroz, and one more from Lucas Torró — were scored from inside the penalty area. 4
Lino
Probably the only Atlético Madrid player who comes out of this game looking good. The Brazilian had a curling effort on goal that clattered off the post just before halftime, and he later assisted Álvaro Morata’s consolation goal on 56 minutes. 7
Hermoso
Won four of his five ground duels but wasn’t decisive off the ball or on it, despite 93 percent passing accuracy. 5.5
Paulista
Caught off-guard in Raúl García’s opening goal, leaving the Spaniard clear on net after a failed headed clearance. Picked up a yellow card for a mistimed intervention and was subbed out at halftime. 3.5
Savić
Had plenty of opportunities to pass early on, finding the likes of Ángel Correa and Samuel Lino with well-placed passes over the top. Made some needed interventions as Osasuna piled on their attacking pressure, but his last-ditch attempt to block Raúl García’s second goal was not enough to prevent him from extending the visitors’ lead to 3-1. 6
Azpilicueta
The veteran defender found himself pinned in behind for significant portions of the match, preventing him from exploiting space forward. The 34-year-old was spared embarrassment for giving away a penalty with a 52nd minute handball…because Oroz made it 2-0 at Jan Oblak’s far post instead. 4.5
De Paul
The midfielder was unable to find a groove. His ball over the top for Lino keyed Atlético’s only goal, but he found it difficult to get involved and was probably fortunate not to receive his marching orders for a bad tackle in the first half. 3
Koke
While momentum was in the team’s favor, Koke did his part to swing the ball into open areas and position himself to receive passes. His defensive presence was needed in the middle of the pitch, but he could only do so much against the rampaging visitors. 5
Llorente
Was exploited defensively — Osasuna found success attacking from the righthand side. Llorente allowed Oroz to get in behind after Oblak’s initial save, giving him a clear lane to score the visitors’ second goal. With the ball, Llorente made promising crosses, but they were not enough to cause any trouble for goalkeeper Sergio Herrera. 4
Griezmann
Had the team’s best chances to score two minutes before halftime, but he hit the ball the wrong side of the post and was unable to convert. His near-post miss just before halftime made it look like it was just a matter of time before the attacker would put one in the back of the net, but Raúl García and company had other plans. Griezmann’s distribution of the ball also had strong moments, especially his ball in behind to Correa, but the Frenchman just wasn’t locked in for large portions of the match. 4
Correa
Was able to get in behind on goal on more than one occasion but was stopped by either a Herrera save or a Jorge Herrando tackle. 4
Subs:
Morata
Brought the game within reach with his goal early in the second half. The goal — his second in 23 games — was his only real contribution. 7
Riquelme
Failed to track back on Osasuna’s third goal, letting Jesús Areso dribble past him to set up Raúl García. 4.5
Reinildo
Dutifully handled his defensive responsibilities, but he just isn’t showing signs that he will become a threat on the ball. 5
Memphis
Attempted zero shots in half an hour on the pitch, despite taking five touches in the Osasuna box. 5
Vermeeren
Replaced Koke with 20 minutes to play, his first action in over two months. The Belgian looked to play passes forward in his limited time on the ball, and he showed a couple impressive touches. 5
The whole Metropolitano started cheering for Vermeeren as he was coming on. About time.
