Xbox Game Pass has pretty much always been superior to PlayStation Plus, especially since Microsoft started giving away brand new first-party games on the day of release. However, despite having the superior subscription service, the Xbox Series X continues to play second fiddle to the PS5, with Sony selling more units than Microsoft in the current-gen console war. Unfortunately for Sony, this dominance could be about to change, as Microsoft makes a monumental announcement ahead of its Summer Games Showcase in June. Confirming earlier reports, Microsoft has confirmed that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be available with Xbox Game Pass on the day of release. This means Xbox users can play the new game in the hugely popular franchise for just £8.99. PlayStation 5 users, meanwhile, will have to shell out upwards of £70 if they want to get their Call of Duty fix for 2024.
Unless Sony makes a similar deal to bring Call of Duty Black Ops 6 to PS Plus, Microsoft may have struck a killer blow to the PS5.
Xbox Game Pass is available for as little as £8.99 a month on consoles. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (which includes access to online multiplayer, EA Play and PC/Cloud gaming) costs £12.99 a month, although you can get it for £8.99 by clicking the link above.
In addition to the new Call of Duty, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can also access first-party games like Gears of War, Forza Horizon and Halo.
Most recently, this includes Hellblade: Senua’s Saga, which was a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass.
The sequel to Hellblade features stunning Unreal Engine 5 visuals, hard-hitting third-person combat, dynamic weather, and immersive sound design.
Microsoft explains more: “Intent on saving those who have fallen victim to the horrors of tyranny, Senua faces a battle of overcoming the darkness within and without.
“Sink deep into the next chapter of Senua’s story, a crafted experience told through cinematic immersion, beautifully realised visuals and encapsulating sound.”
As for Call of Duty Black Ops 6, the new game was officially announced alongside a video titled “The Truth Lies”.
The trailer tells viewers to look in the dark when seeking the truth, and ends by confirming that Black Ops 6 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.
Sadly, if you’re looking for some Black Ops 6 gameplay footage, you’ll need to wait until June 9.
The Xbox Games Showcase will take place at 6pm BST UK time on the afternoon of Sunday, June 9.
Broadcast live on YouTube and other social media platforms, the Xbox Games Showcase will feature a shedload of announcements for upcoming Xbox exclusives, as well as news about big third-party titles launching in 2024 and beyond.
