IIT Hyderabad, Armed Forces Medical Services Collaborate on Research and Training

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) to collaborate on research and training. The agreement will help the two organisations to work together on the development of novel medical devices and addressing health issues faced by soldiers serving in various terrains, a PIB press release stated.

The departments of Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, and Bioinformatics at IIT Hyderabad will provide technical expertise to assist the AFMS in addressing diverse medical challenges faced by the Armed Forces. The areas of collaboration discussed include drone-based patient transport, telemedicine innovations, the application of artificial intelligence in the medical field, and advancements in nanotechnology.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, emphasised the importance of the project in delivering comprehensive medical care to soldiers. He highlighted the significance of partnering with academic institutions like IIT Hyderabad, which are at the forefront of research and innovation.

Prof BS Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, expressed the institute’s commitment to addressing the problems presented by the Armed Forces and providing them with prompt and effective solutions. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the development of advanced technology and research for the improvement of the health and well-being of military personnel.
