The a new official trailer for the sequel to Beetlejuice has been released, and fans have noticed a hidden detail within it that appears to be a tribute to the original 1988 film.

The follow-up, set to hit cinemas on September 6, sees Tim Burton team up once again with actor Michael Keaton in this eagerly awaited sequel to the cult classic.

After a teaser was unveiled in May, the full trailer was launched on July 18, causing quite a stir among fans. While many expressed their anticipation for the forthcoming film, some spotted an intriguing detail in the end credits of the trailer.

A sharp-eyed fan noticed a misspelling of ‘September’ in the credits, which could be a reference to the original movie. In the 1988 film, Beetlejuice is forbidden from saying or spelling his own name, so he intentionally misspells it – according to hardcore fans.

This misspelling is a loophole he uses to trick people into saying his name. One eagle-eyed fan said: “Looks fantastic! During the credits, is there any significance to SEPTEMBER being spelled SEPTEMEBR? Is that a throwback to the first movie in some way?”.

Others were extremely excited for the sequel, with one person exclaiming: “This movie looks amazing can’t wait to see Michael Keaton once again as Beetlejuice,” reports the Mirror. Another added: “Can’t wait for this movie.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will also feature Winona Ryder reprising her role as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara returning as Delia Deetz. The film will also boast a star-studded cast including Justin Theroux, Monica Belluci, Arthur Conti, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe.

The official plot summary for the movie states: “Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.

“With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”
