Nirmala Sitharaman creates a watershed moment as the first ever Finance Minister in Indian history to present the seventh consecutive budget this year. On July 23, Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2024-2025 in the parliament. For this important occasion, the Finance Minister donned an elegant off-white base handloom saree with square checks and broad pink border.

Sitharaman is known for beautiful handloom saree collection. For her every budget session, the FM drapes a uniquely crafted handloom saree symbolising the hard work  of Indian artisans and also exudes a sense of  power and authority.

The budget 2024 witnessed the FM wearing a simple this time. Her off-white cream tone saree has golden work small checks with bright magenta borders. The pallu of the saree is nicely pleated and one can see the purple panels with golden thread work over the border too.

Known for her affinity towards handloom sarees, Sitharaman has always encouraged the heritage of India and the intricate craftsmanship that goes into weaving these beautiful handloom sarees.

Nirmala Sitharaman always poses with the ‘bahi katha,’ that has now transferred into digital tablet that is put inside the red sleeve with the national symbol over it, before leaving for Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Before heading towards the Parliament, the Finance Minister always visits the President, as per established tradition of ‘Dahi Chini.’ In India, traditions say that people must eat something sweet before embarking on a big and important event or task.  Therefore, President Droupadi Murmu offered ‘dahi-chini’ (curd-sugar), considered auspicious, to Sitharaman before she left for Parliament to present the Union Budget.

The Finance Minister’s appearance exalts authority, attention with a blend of cultural pride. The image of the two women in power commands nothing but respect personifying nari shakti.

Before the actual presentation in Parliament, the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will approve the Budget for fiscal 2024-25 (April 2024 to March 2025).

For the interim budget that was presented in February, the FM had draped a resplendent and bright blue kantha silk saree.

Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2024 in Parliament today, marking her seventh consecutive budget and eclipsing the late Moraji Desai’s record of six consecutive budgets, which is likely to focus on changes in the income tax structure and improving the ease of doing business in India.

Expectations are running high as Sitharaman presents her seventh Budget in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Budget would give a glimpse of the Modi government’s performance in the past 10 years while outlining the roadmap to make India a developed nation.

The economy is projected to expand by 6.5-7 per cent in the current fiscal, as per the Economic Survey tabled in Parliament on Monday.
