The Venice Film Festival, renowned for showcasing high-profile films and international cinema, will host the premiere of ‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter Two’ as part of its 81st edition. Scheduled for September 7, 2024, the film will be presented out-of-competition, highlighting its prominent status within the festival lineup. This premiere replaces the film’s previously planned U.S. theatrical release, which was set for August 16. The change in plans follows a disappointing performance of the first chapter, which, despite its hefty $100 million budget, grossed only $11 million on its opening weekend.

Alongside the debut of ‘Chapter Two,’ the Venice Film Festival will also showcase the first installment of the saga on the same day. This presentation provides viewers with an opportunity to experience again the initial chapter, which received a remarkable seven-minute standing ovation at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Cast and crew
Kevin Costner not only stars in ‘Chapter Two’ but also takes on the dual roles of director and producer through his company, Territory Pictures. Joining him in this Western saga is an ensemble of notable actors, including Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, and Danny Huston. The film continues the story of the American West’s expansion and settlement, a theme central to the series, which delves into the complexities of Civil War-era America.
Costner, alongside Jon Baird, co-wrote the screenplay, ensuring that the sequel maintains the narrative depth and historical intrigue of its predecessor. The film’s direction promises to capture the same grand scale and dramatic storytelling that characterized the first chapter.
