Halsey Says Fan Bullying Makes Her ‘Regret’ Return To Music

Halsey says hate from people who proclaim to be fans has made the singer rethink ever coming back to the music world.

The “Without Me” singer, who uses she and they pronouns, posted a gutting note to their Tumblr account on Tuesday, where she said some of their followers have been “meaner to me than any other people on the planet.”

Though the star wrote that she wasn’t speaking for their entire fanbase, Halsey admitted to feeling like “a majority” of their followers have taken on a nasty tone since she returned to the spotlight following an extended hiatus to deal with health problems.

Halsey, who shared that she was diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell disorder back in June, explained how what was once “just a minority that were awful to me” has since seemed to become “a majority” who have “only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.”

“It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency,” the singer admitted.

“Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen.”

Seemingly at their wit’s end, Halsey added, “I don’t know man. I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.”

Admitting she had major regrets about releasing music once again, the “Colors” singer said, “When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what *this* is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”

Halsey followed up with a second post announcing plans to share a “stripped” version of their track “Lucky.” However, releasing the song, which focuses on the dark side of fame, has revealed “the insane irony my life has become,” she said.

“I’m a person. Not a character in a music video,” they concluded.

Though the Grammy-nominated artist didn’t detail the type of hate she’s been receiving, the star recently had to contend with blowback from their track “Lucky,” which draws heavily from the 2000 Britney Spears track of the same name in its chorus and music video.

In a since-deleted post captured by BuzzFeed, Spears appeared to criticize Halsey shortly after the release of “Lucky” last week.

Using X, formerly Twitter, Spears said she felt “harassed, violated, and bullied” by the video’s depiction of a pop star dealing with the perils of life as a celebrity.

Claiming the post was “fake news,” the “Toxic” singer later scrubbed it from her account.

“That was not me on my phone!!!” she wrote. “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it!!!”
