Jaguar’s Latest Plan Is To Basically Stop Selling Cars For A Year

For years, Jaguar has sold some of the most beautiful cars you could buy. At least from the outside, that is. Sales haven’t been great lately, as its cars are old and struggle to compete, and back in March, the British automaker announced plans to kill off its entire gas-powered lineup and replace them with electric cars instead. If you thought that meant Jaguar would have an EV ready to replace at least one car in its lineup, though, you’d be wrong. Autocar reports it plans to simply go a year without building any new cars.

You would think this plan would be a big problem for dealers, but odds are, they’ll just be happy to have extra space for more Land Rovers. Also, they can always sell leftover new stock to the few random customers who want a Jaguar for whatever reason. The XE, XF and F-Type are already dead, the E-Pace and I-Pace will be dead by the end of the year, and the F-Pace will be killed off by the end of 2025 and won’t be offered in many markets. It sounds like we may get a few in the U.S., but for all intents and purposes, Jaguar will be going away for a while.

As far as new product goes, the British automaker plans to reveal its $125,000 electric grand tourer in December. There’s no telling what it will look like, but Jaguar promises it will be the most powerful car it’s ever sold. It also won’t go on sale before 2026, and it’s currently not clear exactly when production will begin, so it could easily be an even longer wait. You don’t usually see automakers basically stop selling cars, but hopefully, this works out for Jaguar.
