Nag Ashwin directed Kalki 2898 AD is refusing to go down without a fight despite being in its seventh week. It emerged as the fourth biggest hit of Indian Cinema last week beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. Many thought with that record the film would fold up its theatrical business but no, Kalki 2898 AD wants to enjoy a run extending till Independence Day weekend.

The film on its 7th Saturday witnessed a nearly 80 percent jump and collected Rs 1.15 crore, as per Sacnilk.The total collection of Kalki 2898 AD now stands at Rs 643.36 crore and the film is expected to add another crore to its kitty on Sunday. Independence Day will be tough for Kalki 2898 AD as three big films are arriving in theatres – Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2, John Abraham’s Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein. Amongst the three films, Stree 2 already has taken the lead in advance booking, also taking the highest numbers of screens.
Kalki 2898 AD is already running with fewer screens and with the release of new films, its shows would suffer even more. The mythological sci-fi film could only hope for the new releases to not be as good as expected which could result in Kalki 2898 AD getting more shows. It is currently in the race to reach the collection of Rs 650 crore. It is also reported that Kalki 2898 AD would be dropping on OTT platforms by the end of the month.
The film was led by Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. The second installment of the film is already in the works.
