OAKLAND — In a plea deal, a local pimp who was allegedly caught beating a woman with a gun in an area known for prostitution will receive 10 years in state prison, while his suspected getaway driver will be sentenced to probation and court-ordered parenting classes, records show.
Clarence “C-Money” Brown III, 29, pleaded no contest to a human trafficking count and will be sentenced to 10 years on Aug. 29, according to court records detailing the plea deal. His co-defendant, 34-year-old Brittany Rivera, also pleaded no contest to accessory and will receive a two-year probation term the same day.
Brown and Rivera pleaded no contest within two weeks of being charged, an unusually quick resolution for a case of this magnitude.
Brown was charged in connection with a May 30 attack near International Boulevard and 13th Avenue in Oakland, an area known as a hangout for sex workers. Undercover Oakland police officers were doing surveillance when they reportedly witnessed Brown striking a woman with a pistol and holding the gun to her head. He then allegedly threw her into the door of a liquor store and got into to a 2013 BMW where Rivera was waiting and fled.
Police say they recovered text messages between Brown and Rivera where they discussed recruiting the woman Brown assaulted into prostitution. Rivera later reportedly told police she tried to calm the situation and stop the attack from happening.
Brown was not allowed to possess guns in part due to a 2018 conviction for vehicular manslaughter, which stemmed from a tragic 2017 crash that claimed the lives of Brown’s 5-year-old daughter, Neveah Brown, and Brown’s friend, 23-year-old Dion Christy, according to court records and media reports. He was later sentenced to four years in state prison.
