What went wrong between Shikhar Dhawan and his ex-wife Aesha Mukerji?

After playing some of the best matches for the Indian cricket team, Shikhar Dhawan made headlines today when he announced his retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket on social media. “As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!,” Shikhar Dhawan tweeted along with a video of himself making the announcement and thanking everyone, including his family, coaches, and teammates for his cricketing journey.

The former cricketer also got emotional and shared that he wishes his son Zoraver gets to know about his retirement through social media.Shikhar Dhawan, who was earlier married to Aesha Mukerji, has no-contact with his ex-wife and son Zoraver now; they live in Australia, while Dhawan is in India. “Zoravar is 11 now. I hope he gets to know about my retirement and all about my cricket journey. But more than as a cricketer, I would like for Zoraver to remember me as a good human being who does good deeds and brings positivity to people around him,” Dhawan said in an interview with Hindustan Times. What went wrong between Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukerji?
Shikhar Dhawan met his ex-wife Aesha Mukerji, who was 10 years older to him, via social media. While Shikhar Dhawan was an ace Indian cricketer then, Ayesha was a former kickboxer. Born in Kolkata to a Bengali father and a British mother, her family had moved to Australia when she was eight years old. When Shikhar met Aesha, the latter was a divorcee with two daughters from her first marriage. However, their age gap or Aesha’s first marriage wasn’t an issue for Shikhar and Aesha, and the duo married in 2012. In 2014, they had a son together and named him Zoraver. However, over the years both Shihar and Aesha drifted away. While Shikhar wanted his wife Aesha to move to India with him, Aesha rejected it and instead forced Shikhar to buy properties on her name in Australia, as per reports. This led to many fights between the former couple, ultimately leading to their separation and divorce. In 2023, the Indian court granted Shikhar a divorce from Aesha on grounds of cruelty. The Court said in a judgement, “the respondent, by conducting herself in the manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage.”
