In a nostalgic nod to Australia’s sporting history, Country Road has launched a limited edition Father’s Day capsule inspired by the brand’s archival crew wear from the early 90s.
The collection pays homage to the legendary Oarsome Foursome, a quartet of Australian rowers who clinched gold at the 1990 World Rowing Championships.
The Oarsome Foursome — James Tomkins, Richard Patton, Andrew Maddock and Kieren Perkins — were more than just a rowing team; they were a symbol of Australian sporting excellence.

Their victory in Tasmania marked the beginning of a golden era for Australian rowing, inspiring a generation of athletes.
James Tomkins, the stroke of the Oarsome Foursome, shared his memories of the era with the brand, recalling Country Road’s pivotal role in supporting the team.
“Country Road came on board to outfit us and we were the best-looking team on the lake bank,” he said.
“It was amazing to have such a well-known brand backing us, especially in a sport that wasn’t as popular back then.”
The crew wear capsule features a range of classic pieces like sweats, t-shirts, a rugby shirt and a polo, all crafted with the same timeless style that defined the Oarsome Foursome’s era.
The collection is a testament to the enduring appeal of vintage sportswear.
Almost 35 years later the brand welcomed back James, his daughters and members of the Mercantile Rowing Club to reflect on the making of an Australian legacy in the capsule shoot.
In addition to the crew wear capsule, Country Road is offering members a complimentary pair of crew wear socks with any purchase over $100.
It’s a limited-time offer that allows customers to own a piece of the Oarsome Foursome legacy.
As Father’s Day approaches, the Country Road crew wear capsule offers a thoughtful and stylish gift for the dads in your life.
