“I had been trying to sign a film for 1-2 years but I was not able to convince anybody to cast me. And I remember one day my father had to go for Filmfare awards, and he asked me to come along with him.
I didn’t have any appropriate clothes for awards show so I wore my sherwani from my sister’s wedding. I went to the Filmfare awards and I remember J.P. Dutta won Best Film for Border,” shares Abhishek.
And that appearance earned Abhishek his debut movie. Recalls the actor, “Dad and I were sitting in the front row and that’s where JP saab saw me. That time he was planning to make a film called ‘Aakhri Mughal’. A few days after the awards show, he came to our house and told my father, “I saw Abhishek that day and I liked his look and I think he’d be very good for the role”. Unfortunately, that film never got made. It was meant to be with Dilip Kumar and me. Instead, he came up with the story of Refugee and we did that. I was signed for my first film but it never got made.”
