A QantasLink flight attendant who tested positive to coronavirus was on board six different flights across Queensland while possibly infectious.

The woman, aged in her 30s, flew between Brisbane, Longreach, Hervey Bay and Gladstone on six flights on July 11 and 12.

She then developed symptoms on July 13.

Queensland Health authorities were notified of the case on Thursday night after the woman came forward for a COVID test on Wednesday.

“She was possibly infectious since July 11,” Acting Premier Steven Miles said on Friday.

Passengers on the six flights are now being contacted and are urged to come forward for testing.

“It is absolutely urgent that we get all passengers on those flights tested as soon as possible,” Miles said.

The flights on July 11 include:

  • Brisbane-Longreach QF2534
  • Longreach-Brisbane QF2535
  • Brisbane-Gladstone QF2346

The flights on July 11 include:

  • Gladstone-Brisbane QF2331
  • Brisbane-Hervey Bay QF2374
  • Hervey Bay-Brisbane QF 2375

The flight attendant has been in Brisbane since July 13 and has not been on any other flights since then.

Spread from Sydney

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young confirmed the has the Delta strain of the virus seen in at least 60 other COVID cases in New South Wales.

“Her whole genome sequence is identical to around 60 sequences in Sydney,” Young said.

“I’m not sure that we’ll ever find that (epidemiological) link … but she’s definitely part of that Sydney cluster.

“We’re not sure how she’s acquired it.”

Authorities are now working to determine how the woman contracted the virus.

Young added the flight attendant was on board some regional routes into NSW, but conceded the case was not “making sense”.

“I would’ve expected there would’ve been spread,” she said, adding people need to come forward for testing if they have any symptoms of the virus.

“It’s sort of not quite adding up to me.”

This is a developing story. More to come.
