Alex de Minaur confirms he will be back for US Open after hip injury nightmare at Olympics

Top Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur has declared he will be fit to play in the US Open after a long layoff due to injury.

De Minaur has not played a singles match since tearing the cartilage in his hip during the match-winning game of his fourth-round match at Wimbledon in July.

He closed out the game to beat Arthur Fils, but never took his place in the quarter-finals, where he would have taken on Novak Djokovic.

The world No.10, who reached as high as No.6 earlier this year, was scheduled to take his place in the Olympic singles tournament weeks later, but pulled out on the eve of his first-round match.

He competed in the doubles alongside Aussie teammates Alexei Popryrin, but the pair were beaten in straight sets by American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.
