The BAFTAs red carpet riffed on Old Hollywod glamour: hello, Ayo Edebiri in a peachy Bottega Veneta halterneck gown and feathered cape; Margot Robbie sporting a candyfloss pink and black strapless-and-sequinned Armani Privé dress and opera gloves; and Rosamund Pike wearing diaphanous cornflower blue Dior Haute Couture. What better to complement all that classic construction? The timeless allure of diamonds, geometric precision and a hit of nostalgia.
Cate Blanchett–on guest presenter duty–led the way in a custom Louis Vuitton gem-encrusted choker which unfurled into a body chain, and was made entirely of recycled materials, specifically deadstock fabric and gemstones repurposed from five of the house’s previous high jewelry collections. Cate of course, is no stranger to sustainability on the red carpet. She has reworn Maison Margiela, Alexander McQueen and Esteban Cortázar creations to film premiers and awards ceremonies, and the oxblood crepe jersey Louis Vuitton gown she wore with her body chain to the 2024 BAFTAs was crafted using the house’s existing stock.
The one-of-a-kind high jewelry that was presented during haute couture week in Paris last month, also crossed the channel to shine the red carpet. Emma Stone–who was awarded Best Actress for Poor Things–opted for a classic rivière-style diamond necklace in yellow gold and a platinum and a ring sparkled with garnets, worn with (another!) peach asymmetric Louis Vuitton gown, which took 450 hours to make.
Elsewhere? Emma Corrin chose a pair of mismatched onyx and diamond earrings by Cartier, Emily Blunt sparkled in naturalistic Tiffany & Co. pieces by Schlumberger and Lashana Lynch and Greta Gerwig embraced Bulgari’s cabochon-cut colored gemstones.
