The late singer Amar Singh Chamkila‘s first wife, Gurmail Kaur, talked about her relationships with Diljit Dosanjh over the years. Gurmail claimed that Amarjot and Chamkila would frequently visit her home and that just a few days prior to the murders, the three of them were together. When asked if she was happy that Diljit would play her spouse, she replied that Diljit is a much-adored actor. She said, “Watching him play Chamkila sent a shiver down my spine. It felt like they’d chosen someone of equal stature to play him… He was dressed in the same way, he had the same haircut,” she said. When asked if she would give him a hug during the movie’s premiere in Mumbai, she replied, “Of course. I hugged him when I met him on set as well. The boy knows me from before.”
She went on to describe her conversations with Diljit, who is from a nearby Punjabi town. She shared, “Diljit didn’t come to meet me after he started doing the film, but he used to meet me often earlier. He used to meet me at the Urban Estate bank. I would go there to get money, and the boy would be there. He would run over and touch my feet as a mark of respect.” When she questioned Diljit if he remembered her when they first met on set, she said that he replied that he did.
She mentioned that Imtiaz Ali would stop by when he was conducting research and making the movie. On April 12, Amar Singh Chamkila, which also stars Parineeti Chopra, was released on Netflix and received a positive response from the audience.
