Apple has rounded out the new product announcements today with the updated 24-inch iMac which is now “supercharged” by the M3 chip, offers a 4.5K Resolution, and is available in seven different colors, making it ideal for both work and play.
The new 24-inch M3-powered iMac brings a huge leap in performance which is up to two times faster than the prior M1 generation of iMacs, up to two and a half times faster for those upgrading from the 27-inch Intel-based iMacs, and up to four times faster than the most powerful 21.5-inch models. The update retains the M1 iMac’s familiar design and 4.5K resolution retina display. That said, the improved all-in-one system promises faster wireless connectivity, seamless experience with iPhones, and a “best-in-class” camera, speakers, and microphone to give users a much improved and faster experience.
Massive Power Leap Over The M1 iMacs
The M3 chip features an 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, a 16-core Neural Engine, and supports up to 24GB of unified memory, which Apple says will provide noticeably improved performance across multitasking with everyday productivity apps and even professional level photo and video editing software. The new iMac also includes support for hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing for more accurate lighting, reflections, and shadows when gaming and working in three-dimensional design apps.
According to the company, productivity apps will run anywhere from 30 to 50-percent faster and professional content creating apps for photo and video will run two to three times faster than before.
“We’re excited to give iMac a big boost in performance with the M3 chip,” says John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “Millions of users absolutely love iMac for its stunning design and expansive 24-inch, 4.5K Retina display that’s the perfect size to spread out with all their favorite apps and get things done. And now M3 brings even more speed to everything users do, whether multitasking, creating captivating images and videos, working on a business plan, or playing their favorite games. The new iMac with M3 is incredible for anyone, especially those who haven’t yet upgraded from Intel, providing a giant leap in performance and capabilities only possible with Apple silicon.”
The new 24-inch M3 iMacs are available to order today starting at $1,299 for the 8-core GPU and $1,499 for the 10-core GPU models. The new iMac is expected to arrive to customers beginning on November 7.
