The scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi, India, is currently underway to determine if the mosque was built on a pre-existing temple. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has resumed its survey for the third day, with the use of machines, including radars, likely to be employed. On the second day of the survey, the ASI team examined the central hall of the mosque and surveyed several basement areas. Fragments of idols were discovered in the debris within the complex, and the Intezamia Masjid Committee is cooperating with the survey. The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K) is assisting the ASI in the survey, with an Earth Sciences team from the institute involved. The Supreme Court has refused to stay the ASI survey, despite concerns from the Muslim side that it may reopen past wounds.
