The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) partnered with Capture One to create an online certification course for digital techs. The ASMP calls it a “first of its kind” collaboration.

The course was created in partnership with the ASMP and is designed to help aspiring digital techs master the tools and studio workflows necessary to operate in a work environment with high-end photographers. The certification is designed to help digital techs show they have the skills necessary to perform the duties required on set and, therefore, land more jobs.

The course is broken into multiple sections and covers the basics of being a digital tech, what to expect and how to operate on set, and what a digital tech needs to know during post production.

“We will guide you through eight extensive modules comprising of videos and multimedia divided into different sections, that’ll explore the key roles of a digital technician, set up your Capture One workstation, familiarize you with the software interface, teach you about customization and shortcuts, and much more. Plus, you’ll get access to several valuable resources, such as an equipment checklist, to ensure you’re prepared for every shoot,” Capture One says.

“In the second part of the course, you’ll engage with 11 videos and multimedia, each with multiple sections, to gain mastery in on-set operations. This includes camera connections, troubleshooting, capturing, focus checks, composition tools, image selection, renaming, securing backups, collaborating with clients, and more. You’ll also receive plenty of tips and tricks for on-set behavior and develop a professional understanding of standard operational practices to ensure you’re prepared for future scenarios,” the company continues.

“In the third and final part, we will cover post-production essentials, including editing tools, using Styles and Export Recipes, and efficient time management on set. Nine videos and multimedia with different sections will provide you with the expertise you need to handle post-production situations you may face in professional jobs. We will again provide you with the best practices and the confidence you need to tackle many tricky situations.”

The course features three exams, one for each part of the course, and they must be completed in numbered order in order to quality for the following segments. Once all three are completed, digital techs will be awarded the Capture One Online Certification Diploma.

ASMP members gain access to the course for free and also get 30% off a new subscription to Capture One.
