Aussie Mother Urges Caution after Disturbing Incident with Baby Monitor: ‘Something Didn’t Seem Right’

A mother has shared her terrifying experience of finding her baby boy struggling to remove a blanket from his face in the middle of the night. Kiarateuila Lattimore, from New South Wales, woke up to her seven-month-old son Salvador crying in an unusual manner. When she reviewed the baby camera footage, she discovered that Salvador had become entangled with the blanket while in his cot. Despite quickly removing the blanket, Lattimore felt guilt and anger at herself for the incident. However, she believes that her son was able to avoid suffocating because they already had safe sleep practices in place. Lattimore wants to raise awareness about the dangers of leaving blankets near baby cots and hopes that her story will encourage parents to follow safe sleep guidelines. She sought help and support immediately to prevent a similar incident from happening again. Lattimore also has a personal connection to the issue, as she lost two siblings to stillbirth. She believes that talking about loss and educating parents on preventable actions during pregnancy is crucial in reducing the number of grieving families. Red Nose Australia aims to raise $1 million in August to support families and prevent child deaths.
