Australia Vs Pakistan: Rain halts play after Pakistan dismiss Australian openers in Sydney Test | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The third Test between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney witnessed a rain-interrupted second day after the visiting team managed to secure crucial wickets, including the dismissals of Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja.
At the close of play, Australia stood at 116 for two, with Marnus Labuschagne at 23 and Steve Smith at six.The day’s play was cut short due to bad light and rain before the scheduled tea break.
Scorecard: 3rd Test Day 2
The hosts found themselves trailing by 197 runs, with Warner falling short of a century in his farewell Test.
Warner, known as ‘the Bull,’ was visibly disappointed after being caught by slip fielder Babar Azam off the bowling of offspinner Agha Salman for 34 runs. His potential second innings in this Test will be significant in concluding his illustrious 112-Test career.
Warner had a stroke of luck when he was dropped on 20 by debutant Saim Ayub at first slip in Aamer Jamal’s opening over. However, his departure marked another missed opportunity for Pakistan in the field, adding to a series plagued by dropped catches.

Usman Khawaja, a standout performer at the Sydney Cricket Ground, fell to a leg-side catch off Aamer Jamal for 47, confirmed after a review. Despite the setbacks, Australia retain a formidable batting lineup, with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease and Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh yet to bat.
The rain interruption added to the Sydney Test‘s history of weather-related disruptions, with the SCG experiencing 26 washed-out days, the highest among Australian Test grounds.
Australia, having secured victory in the second Test in Melbourne, aim to maintain their dominance in the three-match series against Pakistan.
