Bajaj Auto Aims to Meet Rising Demand by Boosting Triumph Production

Bajaj Auto has instructed its motorcycle part suppliers to prepare for a doubling of production for the newly launched Triumph range of motorcycles. This decision comes in response to the overwhelming positive reception of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X models. The company has already received over 15,000 bookings since the launch and is aiming to reach volumes of approximately 40,000-45,000 units in the current fiscal year and 100,000-120,000 units in the next fiscal year. Analysts estimate that this increase in production could contribute around ₹800-900 crore to Bajaj Auto’s revenue in the ongoing fiscal year. The Triumph middleweight models, developed in collaboration with Triumph, were launched in India on July 5.

Rakesh Sharma, executive director at Bajaj Auto, commented on the outstanding response to the launch, with over 15,000 bookings within a week at just 17 dealership locations. He acknowledged that the demand has put pressure on accelerating production and distribution. As a result, Bajaj Auto plans to ramp up production and distribution steadily and in phases. Sharma also mentioned that exports are expected to commence from October.

In a recent meeting with suppliers, Bajaj Auto requested higher production targets. Initially, suppliers were given a phased schedule to increase production to 5,000 units by November-December. However, this has now been revised to over 10,000 units. This move reflects the intensifying competition in the 250cc-plus bike segment, which is experiencing significant value and volume growth. Analysts predict that the newly launched models will enhance Bajaj Auto’s market share and volumes in the 250cc segment.
