Baleno: Hyundai i20 facelift vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno: Price, dimensions, features and specifications compared

Hyundai Motor India recently launched the facelifted Hyundai i20to the Indian market. The new i20 gets an updated design, additional features, updated powertrain options and much more. The new i20 facelift gets re-designed front- and rear bumpers, a new colour scheme for the interior, and now is available only with a single 1.2-litre NA Petrol engine.In this article let’s take a quick comparison between the new Hyundai i20 andMaruti Suzuki Baleno.

First, let’s talk about the price and variants. The new i20 is available in five variants – Era, Magna. Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). The price for the hatch starts from Rs 6.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.01 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom). The Baleno is available in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha and the price starts from Rs 6.6 lakh and goes up to 9.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Comparing the dimensions, the new i20 measures 3995 mm in length, 1775 mm in width, 1505 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2580 mm. The Baleno measures 3990 mm in length, 1745 mm in width, 1500 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2520 mm. In terms of boot space, the new i20 has a boot space of 311 litres whereas the Baleno has a boot space of 318 litres.

Moving inside, the new i20 gets a new dual-tone black and grey interior and features a 10.25-inch touchscreen, fully-digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, seven-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charger, single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, puddle lamps, 60+ connected features, OTA updates, voice commands and Type-C charging ports.

The Baleno gets a three-layered design for the dashboard and features a 9.0-inch Smartplay Pro+ free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa support, voice command support, ‘Suzuki Connect‘ connected car tech, a heads-up display (HUD), 360-degree cameras, automatic climate control, Arkamys surround sound system and much more. Talking about safety features, the new i20 comes with six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, hill assist control and three-point seatbelts with reminders and TPMS. The Baleno too gets six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC and more.

Talking about the powertrain and gearbox, both the i20 and Baleno are offered with a single-engine option. The i20 is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic. The engine puts out 83hp with the MT transmission 88hp with the CVT, and 115Nm of peak torque. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine which puts out 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The Baleno also gets a CNG option.
