Following a promising start to his career, Justin Kluivert, son of revered Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert, has failed to live up to his potential.
But it appears his brother Shane Kluivert could be another star in the making, as the 16-year-old makes baby steps towards a potentially glittering career.
Shane Kluivert signs professional deal with Barcelona
According to Fabrizio Romano, Shane Kluivert has signed his first professional contract with Barcelona recently.
The young winger, who was formerly a part of the PSG youth academy, had joined La Masia in 2017. During the course of his spell in Barcelona’s youth ranks, the winger has made a solid impression.
As a result, Barcelona have now rewarded him with his first professional contract that could make him eligible to feature in the senior side.
For the time being, the Dutchman is still part of Barcelona’s U18 squad and could continue to play a crucial role in the youth side going forward.
Kluivert’s prospect in the senior side
Despite his headline contract, Shane Kluivert has a long way to go before he has even a conceivable chance of making a breakthrough in Barcelona’s senior side.
Even though the Catalans offloaded players such as Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, and Abde Ezzalzouli this summer, there is still immense competition.
Joao Felix’s excellent start to the season, coupled with Lamine Yamal’s rapid ascension does not help his cause either.
Kluivert, though, has a lot of scope for becoming an interesting attacking option for Xavi, especially if he can continue his blistering performances in the youth competitions going forward.
