OAKLAND — A man riding a BART train was stabbed early Friday and another passenger was arrested as the suspect, officials said.
The man’s condition was not available, but BART officials said the injury was not believed to be life-threatening. His age and place of residence were not released.
Officials have not yet said if the victim and suspect knew each other.
The stabbing was reported about 12:20 a.m. Friday on a train that was arriving at the 19th Street Station, officials said.
A 44-year-old Oakland man riding the train allegedly stabbed the victim, BART officials said.
The suspect then got off the train at the station, where he was arrested by BART police. The knife used in the attack was recovered.
BART spokesman James Allison said it appears the attack was unprovoked.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm and for violating probation. According to court records, the suspect is on probation for a September 2022 misdemeanor conviction for disobeying a court order. Details of that case were not immediately available.
He was being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and was scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 27, according to jail records.
