A BART train partially derailed and caught fire Monday morning near Orinda, prompting the closure of two stations and significant delays in the East Bay.
The incident happened at 9:15 a.m. on the Yellow Line train to east Contra Costa County between Orinda and Lafayette, authorities said. As a result, service was halted in both directions in Orinda, and no estimate was given for when it might be restored.
No one was injured in the derailment, and all of the passengers on the train were off-boarded and taken to the Orinda station. Two cars caught fire, and the Orinda Fire Department has since extinguished the flames.
Both the Orinda and Lafayette stations were closed after the incident. As of 11:20 a.m., authorities were still working to establish a bus bridge for the affected area.
We are still gathering full details but this train is unable to move and passengers have off boarded the train.
BART Police and Fire Dept are on the scene as well. https://t.co/OKvFcbfwFs

BART reported a major delay on the Antioch Line in the Antioch and SFO directions due to the problem on a train between Orinda and Lafayette stations, and said there was no train service between Rockridge and Walnut Creek stations.
BART also reported no train service between Rockridge and Walnut Creek, but said a free AC Transit bus bridge was being provided between Rockridge and Walnut Creek in both directions, making all station stops. Passengers traveling from San Francisco International Airport will need to offboard at Rockridge and board a bus to the Walnut Creek station. Passengers traveling from Antioch will need to offboard at Walnut Creek and board a bus to the Rockridge station. Yellow line riders should expect major delays.
