It’s no mystery who Benedict Cumberbatch is Sher-locking lips with.
The actor kisses Oscar winner Olivia Colman while filming their new project The Roses, in which they play a warring husband and wife in a very British remake of Hollywood classic The War of the Roses.
Shooting is currently taking place in Devon, with Sherlock star Benedict, 48, and The Crown star Olivia, 50, playing doomed couple Theo and Ivy Rose – complete with sharp thorns.
Searchlight Pictures, which is making the movie, said: “Life seems easy for the picture-perfect couple – successful careers, great kids, an enviable sex life.
“But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentments that’s ignited when Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down.”
In the 1989 original, based on a novel of the same name, Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner star as a couple locked in a bitter divorce battle who try everything to drive each other out of the marital home.
The new film is a “reimagining” of Warren Adler’s book, according to its makers.
Director Jay Roach admitted that when he was sent the script he was “sceptical” at first because he loved the original.
But he added: “With Olivia and Benedict attached, I should have known it would go in a new and wonderful direction.”
The Roses is slated for release next year and has been in the pipeline since 2017.
Benedict, who is currently enjoying success in Netflix drama Eric, is one of the producers.
