Best portable air purifier: Sunbeam device drops its price by almost 50 per cent

Spring heralds the season before summer – but it’s also a time when allergies, dust and pollen are at an all-time high.

Those who experience hay fever know how uncomfortable this time can be, plagued by watery eyes and runny noses.

Although there is no quick fix, some Australians are crediting Sunbeam’s On-The-Go Portable Air Purifier, which is currently 48 per cent off on Amazon, for assisting with their springtime illnesses.

The $77.99 purifier, which weighs less than half a kilo, is travel friendly and can easily fit in your luggage, backpack, gym bag or a large handbag.

You can use it in the office, at home or while exercising at the gym, with the product able to purify a space up to 10 square metres.

The USB-rechargeable battery has eight hours of run time at a high setting and 12 hours at a low setting.

The UV light attached claims to be able to zap up to 99.99 per cent of viruses, bacteria, germs and mould spores from the air.

It’s easy to tell if the air quality around you is poor with the traffic light-style system.

The indicator light will turn red for poor, yellow for fair or blue for good.

To alert you when it’s time to replace the filter, the light turns red and starts to flash.

Filters can be purchased separately from Amazon for $24.

Those who have the purifier use it often and say they “never get sick”.

“Works really well. Has a rechargeable battery and it’s a compact unit that you can put on a dining table which is hardly noticeable to other people,” one man wrote on Amazon.

“I use it near my bed at night to clear pollens. I run it on fan setting number one and you can hardly hear it and I sleep well with it on.”

“Purchased for my husband who uses an e-cigarette which makes our smoke alarms go off all the time. His is a prescription one so no nasties in it but we still get residue and a fog,” a female customer said.

“The purifier is amazingly good at sucking in the fog. No more alarms going off and no more fog. Will be buying another one for general use as I have allergies, especially to dust.”

A third added: “I never get sick any more. Love this. I have been using it in my car to help with allergies but love how small it is and that it is rechargeable! Great value for money”.
