In a post shared on his Instagram handle, Gates wrote: “Wow! I had a colossal visit to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue.”
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi “for the invitation to visit this engineering marvel” and chief minister Bhupendrabhai Patel for hosting him.
The Statue of Unity is the world’s tallest statue, with a height of 182 metres and is twice the height of Statue of Liberty which is 93 metres tall (with the pedestal and foundation).
Gates was in Jamnagar, Gujarat, for the pre-wedding celebrations of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani, and industrialist Viren Merchant’s daughter, Radhika Merchant.
Gates meets PM Modi
Gates met Modi last week and discussed AI for public good, women-led development and innovation in agriculture and health.
“It is always inspiring to meet with @narendramodi and there was a lot to discuss. We talked about AI for public good; DPI; women-led development; innovation in agriculture, health, and climate adaptation; and how we can take lessons from India to the world,” he posted.
He also met with Mansukh Mandaviya, minister of health and family welfare; IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar; S. Jaishankar, external affairs minister of India; Ashwini Vaishnav, minister for railways, communications, electronics and Information Technology, among others.
Previously, Gates shared a video of him with Dolly Chaiwala that went viral on the social media.
