Irwin’s surgery took place in the US, where her husband’s parents provided support and assistance during her recovery. Irwin emphasized the importance of educating the public and healthcare providers about endometriosis and ensuring that doctors have the necessary tools to diagnose the condition accurately. Endometriosis affects one in nine individuals with female reproductive organs and can cause severe pain and infertility. It often affects not only the reproductive organs but also other parts of the body such as the bowel, bladder, muscles, joints, lungs, and brain. While there is no cure, managing the pain and addressing infertility are the primary concerns. Other symptoms include fatigue, painful periods, pain during or after sex, heavy or irregular bleeding, pain during bowel movements or urination, and pelvic, lower back, or leg pain.
