While the exact cause of the collision remains unclear, it is being reported that the driver collided into the animal as he could not spot it just in time because of lack of illumination on the road.
Animal-related road accidents are a significant concern in India. Highways often cut through rural areas and forests, habitats for various animals, including livestock and wildlife. Inadequate fencing and warning signs heighten the problem, making it difficult for drivers to spot animals in time to avoid collisions. This poses a risk not only to human life but also to the animals that wander onto busy roads.
Reducing speed and using high-beam headlights judiciously can help in spotting animals from a distance, allowing more reaction time. Furthermore, implementing better infrastructure, such as animal crossing signs and roadside fencing, can mitigate these incidents.
