Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is making waves at the box office, and that means everyone is thinking about Barbie (and Ken and Allan, of course).
However, while the film features many versions of Barbie, one significant Barbie is missing: the Beyoncé Barbie. Back in 2005, Mattel released a Beyoncé Barbie as part of their Destiny’s Child collection—but Beyoncé shares an even deeper connection with the iconic doll.
Who could forget Halloween 2016 when Beyoncé and Jay-Z dressed up as Barbie and Ken?
However, there’s another significant moment in Beyoncé’s history with Barbie that you may not be aware of. According to Hello Magazine, Blue Ivy Carter, the heiress to the Bey-Jay empire, has a unique Barbie doll that was never available for purchase.
About 10 years ago, Blue Ivy was about to celebrate her first birthday. As you can imagine, the first birthday of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s first child wouldn’t be a quiet, modest affair. The party, described as a “lavish princess-themed bash” in New York, featured over $75,000 worth of pink and white roses, along with a birthday cake that cost nearly $2,000.
However, those expenses are nothing compared to the value of the unique gift Blue Ivy received: “a one-of-a-kind Barbie covered in diamonds.” Hello reports that the doll is worth $80,000, thanks to “160 sparkling diamonds embedded in white gold.”
But let’s be honest, we’re talking about Beyoncé and Jay-Z here. Did we really expect them to shop in the bargain bin?
