BMW India today launched the much anticipated BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market. The luxury sedan is being offered in LWB form for the first time in India and is the third long-wheelbase model from BMW in India, after the 3 Series and 7 Series. Interested customers can book the sedan online or by visiting their nearest BMW dealership. Talking about the variants and pricing, the BMW 5 series is offered in a single – 530Li petrol variant and is priced at 72.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in three variants – Exclusive E 200, Exclusive E 220d and Elite E 350d priced from Rs 76.05 to 89.15 lakh (ex-showroom).Now comparing the dimensions, the new 5 Series LWB measures 5,165 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width, and 1,518 mm in height and has a 3,105 mm long wheelbase. The sedan gets 18-inch alloy wheels, customers can also opt for larger 19-inch M-Sport alloy wheels. The E-Class LWB measures 5,075 mm in length, 2,065 mm in width, and 1,465 mm in height and has a 3,079 mm wheelbase. The sedan has 18-inch alloy wheels.

Now let’s talk about the features, the new BMW 5 Series LWB gets dual tone interior with leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, four-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, matrix LED headlamps, an 18-speaker, 655W Bowers & Wilkins sound system, six USB-C ports, connected car tech, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, two wireless charging pads and much more.

Safety features include eight airbags, stability control, cornering brake control, electric parking brake, ISOFIX mounts, parking assistant and ADAS features such as cruise control, attentive assistant, lane change warning, cross traffic and front, rear collision warning, exit warning and much more. It also gets remote parking via smartphone.

Talking about the features in the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, it gets LED headlamps and tail-lamps, twin 12.3-inch screens, one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system, dual tone interior with three upholstery options, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Mercedes’ Meconnect with Alexa and Google Home, voice commands, a 590W Burmester sound system, reclining rear seats, three-zone automatic climate control, two wireless phone chargers, a panoramic sunroof, air suspension, soft-close doors and much more. In terms of safety, the sedan gets seven airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, traction control, ESP, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera and more.

Finally let’s talk about the engine options, as mentioned previously the new BMW 5-Series LWB is offered as a sole petrol engine option. It gets a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid tech. The engine puts out 258 hp of power and 400 nm torque, it comes paired with a 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class on the other hand gets multiple engine options, the E200 gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 194bhp and 320Nm torque. The E220d gets a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 192bhp and 400Nm torque. Top-of-the-line E350d variant gets a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 282bhp and 600Nm of torque. All three engines are paired with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
