BMW 7 Series Protection: Armoured Luxury Limousine Launched in India |

BMW India today announced the launch of the BMW 7 Series Protection armoured luxury limousine in the Indian market. The 7 Series Protection (also called the G73) will be bought in India via a completely built-up unit and will be available in a single-engine option. The new BMW 7 Series Protection is highly customisable in terms of safety features and the actual cost will depend on the buyer’s requirements. We expect a base price of upwards of Rs 10 crore.

Talking about the exterior details, the BMW 7 Series Protection looks very similar to the standard model. It features an illuminated BMW kidney Glow with crystal headlights. Additionally, the armoured limousine gets flag holders on the front fenders, and it also gets new 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped up in special Michelin PAX tyres. BMW says in the event of a flat, these 255-740 R 510 AC tyres will allow the driver to go 30km at speeds of up to 80kph.
Each door of the BMW 7 Series Protection weighs about 200kg and all doors get motorised assistance for opening and closing, they can also be closed automatically at the touch of a button from inside. It also gets electrically operated roller sunblinds to extend horizontally from the B-pillar towards the C-pillar. It also gets a ‘spy position’ where they remain open by just around ten centimetres to offer a glimpse outside.

The limousine also features an in-house developed core of 10mm steel, onto which the armoured body panels and the bullet-proof glass are installed. BMW says the multi-layer technology secures occupants against even 72mm rifle and sniper rounds and it also gets underbody and roof protection that can withstand more than one hand grenade.
The BMW 7 Series Protection has a VR9 protection rating and the glass has VPAM 10 rating. It also gets an electric heating function for both the windscreen and the front sections of the side windows. Inside, the overall layout remains the same as the standard 7 Series and buyers can choose from four interior trims – Oak High Gloss, Brown Limewood, Carbon Fibre, and Ash Grain Metallic.

The BMW 7 Series Protection can be had with additional features such as a self-sealing fuel tank, oxygen tanks to help protect against gas attacks, a fire extinguisher with automatic and manual discharge, flashing lights, radio transceivers, flag poles, BMW flashing lights, beacons and many more. Other convenience features include Inside as expected you get a whole lot of luxury which includes a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system with a 1,265-watt digital amplifier, 28 speakers, and heated and ventilated seats for the front and rear occupants.

Talking about the powertrain, the 7 Series Protection is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol that produces 530hp and 750Nm of torque. It comes paired with an 8-speed auto that send power to all four wheels. Despite added weight the new 7 Series Protection is capable of sprinting to 100kph in 6.6 seconds which is about 2 seconds slower than the standard model. The 7 Series Protection is about a tonne heavier than the standard model, weighing in at about 3.9 tonnes.
